perfect cats
01.09.05 (6:02 am)   [edit]

so in drawing the other day roomie roomie stares at me intently as he shows us a picture that is made completely out of cats (pictures of them) and they looked very life like...what? i thought it was cute. Ok MAYBE a little bit distrubing, but only a lil! i would totally do it!

cailtin agrees:

"i could never live in a cat-less existance"..."that is why people suicide, i think, cuz they dont have cats..." ~CAITLIN

letter+a desk
01.09.05 (5:43 am)   [edit]

here is a letter and a funny story:

from my cat(after things worked out):I was SO excited to hear that you would be coming to visit me earlier than anticipated. The news I hear from Mom and Dad makes me positively PURR. I will try to be in good shape for you; am keeping fit by chasing Mittens, meeting Mom at the garage door, and checking out the action on the porch. I look forward to sleeping with you. Love as always, Momo

so i asked my roommate andrea where i should go to get a desk.  She tells me "the desk factory" and not knowing this is a joke i question where this is and such.  It keeps on running...so i tell stacey that we are going to the desk factory to get the desk to which she tells her dad(who has no idea what is going on) and then tries to look it up where it is online (for dirrections)...o god school has taken over our brains

European Economics - yawn but i am good at econ so i guess GLs have to come from somewhere besides storks

MEatballs II- gulp *dont fail out dont fail out dont fail out dont fail out* and serbevof is teaching it....this could be interesting, but the first homework assignment was easy...which prolly means nothing

Probability with stats application- what is this class about you may wonder, well i dont know either but here is what i do know: it is an evans class, and she said the first day that we would be playing casino games on lab days a lot....if this is any indication the first day she bet someone $2.50 the first day

drawing-ok so i cant draw but....maybe i will be after this quarter, that or i will hate it for the rest of my life and take pleasrue in burning it

ok well time to go hang with sisters or rather hang out in my room so that the director dosent get angery that i am attending a party in my own house...no idea, i am confused (like always)

the scariness of it all
11.09.04 (3:33 am)   [edit]

i have begun to study in my classes...take bets now on how long it will last, and if you say over a year i will kiss you...

i dont think i will get any C's this quarter even though i was getting worse in that in everyclass except one at midquarter (and that one was an A in statics, sorry folks the easiest class on the face of the earth!) ...but B's are cool when they used to be D's and i think i could muster an A or something...well we will have to see how the finals go

you know my life is pathetic when my cat writes me a letter in antisapation of coming home and tells me "i am preparing my tongue to lick you with when you get here"...i think my parents need another child, one that lives at home, that they can baby.  It must've been a big shock to have both your kids go 100+ miles away in the same year....but MY CATS ARE NOT YOUR KIDS!!!  they are mine, and i am taking them back....

Nick Coleman: Kerry carries Edina -- and pigs fly, right?

Nick Coleman,  Star Tribune
November 4, 2004

A Republican has won the White House again, but there were no signs of apocalypse here on the prairie.

Except one.

Hell didn't freeze over, the sun didn't rise in the West and the Vikings remain unlikely to win a Super Bowl in our lifetimes. Still, the reelection of George W. Bush was accompanied by something equally as astonishing:

Edina turned blue.

Edina voted for a Democrat, giving John Kerry the nod over Bush. If the city that was incorporated in 1888 and started by Irish and Scottish farmers still had pigs, they would have been spotted in the skies over Southdale.

A city of cake-eaters, hockey golden boys, fashionistas, brokers and the first enclosed mall in the nation did something it hasn't done since it had more sheep than salesmen: Gave thumbs down to a Republican candidate for president -- 16,090 for Kerry to 15,277 for Bush.

Records that go back to the Eisenhower era show no Democrats winning in the leafy precincts. None.

Not Kennedy (who lost by a 4-1 margin to Nixon); not favorite son Hubert Humphrey (who lost by 9,000 votes to Nixon), not Fritz Mondale (Edina gave Ronald Reagan a giant margin of 11,000 votes in 1984).

And Barry Goldwater, who I think said, "Extremism in the defense of shopping is no vice," held off the Democratic landslide in 1964, beating Lyndon Johnson by 7,000 votes in Edina.

Edina going for a Democratic presidential candidate is like hearing that your Lutheran pastor left his wife and ran off with a Catholic catechism teacher. You knew it could happen in theory, but it didn't seem likely. Edina was never seduced by Bill Clinton, and went for Bush over Gore by 2,400 votes just four years ago.

Still, Bush should have seen this coming. What can you expect from a town whose main drag is an avenue called France?

It was just last April that Edina impresario David Frauenshuh played host to George Bush and 110 invited guests with big wallets to a soirée at his home in Edina's Indian Hills neighborhood (no, there are not many Indians in Indian Hills). That little deal collected a million dollars for the Bush campaign. The swag might have helped the president nationally, but it didn't put him over the top in Edina, where half of the city's 20 precincts went to Kerry.

The big difference came in four precincts (4, 13, 14 and 17) on the east side of the city -- along the France Avenue corridor adjacent to the cities of Minneapolis and Richfield. They went heavily for Kerry, rolling up a 1,500-vote Democratic surplus that was enough to hold off the Republicans elsewhere in the city of almost 48,000.

The outcome was no surprise in Morningside, a cozy Edina neighborhood of oaks and comfortable homes (small by Indian Hills standards). Near the Precinct 4 polling place on Grimes Avenue -- a warming house next to the ice rink in Weber Park -- many yards still had Kerry-Edwards signs.

The Democrats finally have "achieved" Edina.

"I'm not terribly shocked," said Clement Volpe, a retired trumpet player for the Minnesota Orchestra who was bagging leaves in front of his home on Grimes, where he and his wife, Ephie, have lived since 1957. Volpe, 75, and his wife, a retired special-education teacher, voted for Kerry, along with almost 63 percent of their Precinct 4 neighbors.

"We have a lot of younger people here and they're pretty well-educated and they probably felt it was time for a change," Volpe said. "We have esprit de corps in Morningside."

There they go again, talking French.

Joni Kelly Bennett, the DFL precinct chair, was walking Morgan, her golden retriever, past Volpe's house. "Yes!" she exulted when I delivered the Edina vote count to her. "At least we won something!" But Bennett said the Edina shift to blue was no fluke.

"It's not just Edina that has changed," said the stay-at-home mom with a law degree from Columbia who is involved in many volunteer efforts. "The Republican Party has changed, too -- it has shifted to the right. The Republican Party has been paramount in Edina, but it's not as monolithic as it used to be. There are a number of Republicans in Edina who couldn't stomach what Bush was doing."

Down the street, Lisa Borgia was just getting out of her car. The executive director of the National Wildlife Rehabilitator Association, Borgia almost opened her door when she woke up Wednesday to go out and yell, "What's the matter with you people?"

But she didn't mean her neighbors: She and her husband, a construction company executive, voted for Kerry.

"People in this neighborhood, including the Republicans, are intelligent enough to know when they've been lied to and manipulated, if I can be so blunt," Borgia said. "I'm really proud of Minnesota for voting for Kerry, and I think Paul Wellstone would be smiling today."

Who woulda thunk it?

Minnesota stayed blue in the election of 2004, and Edina voted for the Democratic candidate for president. If I were planning the Republican strategy for 2008, I would try very hard to understand what is going on in Edina.

Edina is always ahead of the curve.

makingout: the act of kissing for extended periods of time which is supposed to be enjoyable for both ppl

groping: is something to do with shutting off the lights and trying to find each other in the dark, i think starting from oppoisite sides of the room, but people laugh and tell me this is a good deffinition but i think they might just be scared to tell me the truth...

late nights
09.17.04 (12:17 am)   [edit]
ok so there is really no ryme or reason to me being up this late besides the fact that everyone wants me to make up with stacey and believe i am doing it immaturely and therefore dicsing me for it....umm one aspect of my life people....i just want to not screw things up with everyone else, and be able to sleep once in a while (obviously not tonight but prolly in the future nights to come)  i know, i know, make up, but do people really have to treat me badly so i will? i think not, i mean i still had a bad day, that issue aside...i hope i get an A on the meatballs quiz (ok better goal, i hope i dont fail)...

busyness
09.14.04 (9:43 am)   [edit]

Things i have learned so far this quarter:

homework sucks, but studying sucks more

if you sleep for more than 6 hours, you are probably failing

weed out classes are fun to talk about when you are NOT in them

the worx is good

being invisible is better

"A's" come is trace amounts in real GPAs

hit lists are fun to make

meat balls is on my hit list

the friends in my classes keep both unfocused but strangely motivated

you make time for everything besides school work

"weekends" are hereafter renamed "makeup deadlines"

people admire you for doing homework all saturday night

recruitment
09.04.04 (2:21 pm)   [edit]

omg recruitment is going to be the best thing ever this year...i love my deltas and kimberly is in charge of the skit and i got all the craft things down pat

it will so fun when dorm storming starts on tuesday (i am going with bekah) and then meeting all of them after recruitment will be super fun too.  I know it is a little hassle for people that are affliated but next year it will be different and even so it is for good reasons so it is not a complete loss

i bought a futon! for new res! so now i can sleep there if i want or something....and i need to figure out how to get on to DC++ since i really need some new DVD choices

one week of quoteables

bookrush and sorts
08.28.04 (9:58 pm)   [edit]

wow work today was tough...soooo many freshmen faces and i could barely talk to any of them (well the girls at least) and it is kinda frustrating except for the fact that i am super excited about recruitment!!!! ok i will try and bottle that up until i get to know the freshmen...

doing nothing is such a good phrase to hear but then when you have to work a long day with one 15 minute break you get kinda tired...grrrr   o well i will have tons o fun with my sisters in the upcoming days talking about recruitement and then chapter retreat all day on wednesday (YEAH!) which means no work on wednesday (YEAH!)

btw i am on the current crafting fix of making shrinky dinks and if you want i think i am going to print off and trace disney characters soon...they will be cute one princess for each of my roomies (jasmine, sleeping beauty ~surprisingly not me, snow white~yep that is me) but if anyone else would like a cute tridelta one or something let me know :)

also i sold my chemistry book to a freshmen today, very exciting and he of course thought it was a little strange that i glued a picture of a kitty to the cover bu then again sometimes chemistry just needs to be cute....i think he bought it

onward to theta and delta craft and get together time and then another day of wonderful work in the bookstore,,,note to non-freshmen: DO NOT come into the bookstore on monday unless you have 2 hours to kill

in the TH
08.23.04 (7:17 pm)   [edit]

the beat goes on...

I am very bored of moving all my stuff into the room and even more so of the drama that goes on...whateve i am happy i might go visit ro!

i am soooo excited for recruitment this year, kimberly and i are going to be awesome this year!

Three roomates, three deltas, coincidence? i think not

i think all the freshmen girls should rush but i am sure some will be talked out of it by someone who believes the system of recruitement has only wronged them and so forth blah blah...but recruitment is going to be super fun and no one is going to break rules or anything and we are all going to be STOKED!!!!

yeah well nothing is perfect and well it is just my opinion that if you want to be the victim in every situation you will only end up becoming a victim to others ...

i was at camp last week:

i had 8 8th grade girls and no co-counselor, the first ever shortage of girl counselors there has ever been in 20 years...but it is a compelment since they thought i could handle it on my own...as a side note there was one cabin of 3 9th grade girls with two counselors, shouldn' t you put the single with the smallest cabin? well my girls will still the coolest thing since sliced bread...

my girls explained the finer points of stalking boys that almost twice their age and the issue of how many rolls you can physically roll soffee shorts...we got up to 7

the cut on my chin: well see funny story, we have a huge oatmeal fight at my camp where they cook up huge tubs and garbage bags full of it...then we proceccd to throw it at each other and get all mucky!  now i HAVE to deck all my girls in oatmeal, i mean i am such a good counselor and everything...so the real problem comes when two of my girls tell me they are ditching the fight to take showers...."in my head: ok, so i have to deck them before they can run to far away"...mission possible...but then all my campers got revenge by surrounding me and smearing it all over me (some actually didnt like touching the oatmeal so they just tickled me instead) the only problem is that once the oatmeal touches the ground it gets dirty and well a huge twig was in the stack so i got a cut on my chin from the oatmeal fight!  it is awesome!
